Siddhant Chaturvedi shines in this gripping action spectacle, Raghav Juyal ‘KILL’s it again

After the critically acclaimed KILL, here is another action entertainer starring the younger lot of Bollywood. Siddhant Chaturvedi takes on an action role for the first time and joining him is Raghav Juyal, who left everyone in awe with her power-packed performance in Kill. South Indian actress Malvika Mohanan plays the female lead in this slick action thriller directed by Ravi Udyawar. The movie has released on National Cinema Day 2024, (September 20) and the offer on the ticket prices are a steal deal (Rs 99 per ticket). What is Yudhra all about? Check out the story and plot

Yudhra (Siddhant Chaturvedi) is very young when he loses his parents – Girish (Saurabh Gokhale) and mother to an alleged road accident. He is adopted by Kartik Rathore (Gajraj Rao). The trauma post his parents sudden death results into him developing anger issues and he turns rogue at a young age. With each passing year, he crosses new limitations of anger that end him up in extreme situations. It is his late father’s friend Rehman (Ram Kapoor), who suggests him to enrol for military training to give his anger the right direction. Yudhra will soon get busy busting a drug racket run by Firoz (Raj Arjun) and Shafiq (Raghav Juyal). While he knows who he is up against in this case, there are also unknown follies lurking in the shadows.

What’s Hot?

Yudhra is an action thriller but it also tries to be more than just awe-inspiring action and edge-of-the-seat thrill. Director Ravi Udyawar (Sridevi’s Mom fame) tries to bring an emotional depth into the story, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment. The film is a revenge saga at its heart, clubbed with a youthful love story and it has moments where it gives you a break from the intense action and nudges your core. What makes Yudhra palatable is that despite being a known premise, it brings out the vulnerability of each character, while also letting them bask in a grey shade. The dynamics between the characters – be it the rift or the love story – that both go on in parallel, are beautifully woven between the action and thrill.

The story is fast-paced and takes you right into the heat and while it does get predictable after a point, the twists and turns before that will keep you hooked. Is it as violent as Kill? You need to watch it to decide that. But it has enough and more bloodshed to come close to what we saw in Kill. Except, Yudhra is not limited to a single space but takes you to some slick locations as well.

Talking about performances, Siddhant Chaturvedi has all that it takes to be the next favourite action hero. The film gives him a great scope to showcase his range as an actor – right from a rebel to an angry young man to an emotional guy who is hopelessly in love. The film is a great follow up for Raghav Juyal on the heels of Kill. He is turning out to be a great young antagonist that has been missing in films since some time. His character Shafiq is a little over the top but just to the right point and he does leave a mark. The way he brings out his feminine side in the film is commendable.

Malavika Mohanan looks captivating and gives a heartwarming performance. Though she has limited screen time, she leaves an impact with her effortless performance. Like always, Gajraj Rao brings his own uniqueness to the film while Raj Arjun plays the menacing Firoz to perfection. Ram Kapoor is endearing. The film is creating waves in entertainment news.

What’s Not?

Yudhra is an action spectacle but while it successfully keeps you engaged in the first half, the second half disappoints. It’s like a decrescendo. The story gets predictable and lacks depth, making it rely hugely on the visual aspect.

BL Verdict

Action hai, entertainment hai, drama hai, love story hai – and great performances bhi hain. If you thoroughly enjoy the action genre, Yudhra should be your weekend watch in theatres this week.
